THE OLD CASTLE OF DUINO
Next to the Duino Castle it is possible to admire the fascinating ruins of the ancient Castle of Duino. It is a fortress of Roman origins, dedicated to the God of Sun.
It became then the private residence for the Princes Von Thurm und Taxis. There’s also a legend connected to this place. Its main character is a young and unhappy bride, known as the White Lady. She was victim of her husband, an evil man who decided to end her life throwing her into the sea. Before drowning, the woman emitted a last heartbreaking scream and then she turned into a white rock that still stays in the middle of the sea. It is said that the White Lady is still living in the old Castle of Duino.
